It is well known how much I like to visit islands. I could not just be home for my birthday, so I decided to fly to Spain again, this time to Ibiza. As I was born during the beginning of May, the party season was not started yet, but I was glad to have the opportunity to enjoy the island as it is, without wittnessing the usual “drunk party people” stories.
In order to enjoy this trip to the fullest, I decided to rent a convertible car as well. How can you enjoy an island without a good drive?
This time, I had a companion. I found my perfect travelling match, my dutch friend who does not know how to say “no” to adventures. We started on Friday afternoon and came back on Monday morning. Apparently short, but we have managed to see a lot. Having a ride on a weekend trip is such a time savior!
First surprise…we got to enjoy this beautiful beast, which was looking just perfect in every possible location. My first time driving an automatic car!
Second surprise: the hotel. The views provided by the roof top terrace/restaurant were amazing. The blue sky, the water, the far away boats left me speechless and having breakfast every day in such location was making happy even the non-morning person that I am.
Another big plus for Cenit hotel was the pool and the pool bar. Perfect for spending a lazy afternoon.
During the first day, the plan was to see as much as possible of Ibiza. The accomodation was in the main city, but the whole island had much more to offer. The party places are mostly located on the other side of the island, in St. Antonio, which was about half an hour drive away. Famous places where famous DJs mix can be found here. As well as this lovely view:
The sea here was not calm at all and the wind was strongly blowing. There were some quite impressive waves reaching the shore, compared to the other side of the island which was very peaceful.
Because locals know the best places, at someone’s suggestion we tried a very nice restaurant named “El Chiringuito”. Just after a 10 minutes drive from St. Antonio, but with a good GPS, because the place is well hidden, we arrived at this amazing place which basically is located on a beach, meaning that on one side, people were eating and on the other side, others were enjoying the sun. Still, the place was quite fancy and the waiter shared with us an interesting story about the food served here and about the chef.
I was also reading that they even host weddings here. Not bad for such a romantic location.
The second day, the plan was to take the ferry to Formentera. On a Sunday, the trips including cars are limited, maybe 3 or 4 times per day. Anyway, in less than one hour we arrived in Formentera and drove to Playa Illetes through a natural park. Unfortunately, I could not stop for taking the pictures, as the road was so tight, but I still keep in my mind the image of the small lakes on one side and the other of the road and the shiny shores made of salt cristals.
The beach was very nice and the water incredibly warm for the first days of May. We were even able to swim for an hour or so.
Bottom line: I have to return to Ibiza for a cool party and to Formentera as well, to discover what is left. I am sure there are amazing beaches waiting for me there.
