I am currently celebrating Christmas in Romania, together with my family. As per the Orthodox tradition, the day needs to start at church. For this purpose, we have chosen Snagov Monastery.
Located on an island of Snagov lake, this small place “hides” the grave of the one and only Vlad the Impailor a.k.a. Dracula 🙂
In order to reach the place, there is a bridge to pass by foot. Wondering what is the black spot in the picture? For sure a fisherman who found his way to get the fish, despite the freezing water.
The Monastery’s yard is quite big, worth mentioning this beautiful tower
The Monastery itself, small and simple, keeps the details of the tower, was redone by Vlad the Impailor.
Lake view from the island:
Inside the church, the beautiful paintings specific for the orthodox places, together with the grave.
A short story about Vlad is hanging next to multiple proofs of his living:
The monastery is well guarded by this “fierce” dog and its brothers, which love to pose and to welcome guests.
A lovely surprise was to find peacocks walking around. Enjoyed the amazing blue, but unfortunately I couldn’t convince it to open its tail for me.
…aaaand my proof of being here. Selfie with the tower:
